Understanding Smartwatch Certifications and Compliance

Smartwatch compliance is never a generic certificate exercise. The applicable requirements depend on the exact model, radio functions, charging system, battery, intended use, destination and the party placing the product on the market. Shrih Electronics encourages buyers to review documentation at model level before advertising or importing.

In the European market, connected radio products can require CE conformity assessment under relevant rules, including radio-equipment requirements; RoHS restrictions may also be relevant for electrical and electronic equipment. In the USA, an RF device must use the appropriate FCC equipment-authorisation procedure before it is marketed, imported or used where the rules require it.

Bluetooth SIG states that Bluetooth products must complete its qualification process before sale or distribution and that the product identity used in qualification should match the product marketed. Check the qualified-product database and confirm the brand scenario for any rebranded product.

Smartwatch Certifications and Compliance — buyer note 4

India’s BIS requirements should be checked for the exact product category and current regulatory scope; do not assume every smartwatch has the same registration route. Battery transport, charger, plug and local e-waste requirements can be separate considerations.

Ask for selected-model test reports, declarations, IDs/listings where applicable, labels, manuals and change-control information. Have the importer or specialist adviser confirm final obligations in the destination market.
